The Los Angeles Abrasion Machine is utilized to determine the resistance of aggregates to fragmentation. The machine includes an electronic control unit and a rolled steel drum with an inside diameter of 711 mm and an internal length of 508 mm. The drum rotates at a speed of 31-33 r.p.m. and features an internal shelf that conforms to ASTM, AASHTO, and EN standards. An automatic counter is installed in the machine, which stops the device automatically when the preset revolution count is reached. Additionally, an interlock device is incorporated into the drum, allowing the operator to lock it into position for easy loading and unloading of the sample.
For simple discharge of specimens and abrasive charges, a steel tray is included with the machine. The standard model can also be equipped with a safety/noise reduction cabinet, which is lined internally with soundproofing material to reduce the sound level according to CE directives. If desired, the cabinet must be ordered with the Los Angeles machine as the electronic control unit will be installed on the safety cabinet during manufacturing. Furthermore, the cabinet features an electric safety device that stops the rotation of the drum automatically when the door is opened, in compliance with CE directives.
• According to EN standards, abrasion balls and 1.6 mm, 10mm, 11.2mm (or 12.5mm), and 14 mm sieves are available.
• For ASTM and AASHTO standards, abrasion balls, a 1.7 mm (No.12) sieve, and other sieves that vary depending on the grain size must be ordered separately.
