Streamlining the Cube Transition with Jigs on Automatic Compression Machines

Materials testing laboratories often need to switch between testing different types of specimens, such as cylinders and cubes, to assess various materials' compressive strength and properties. This transition can be time-consuming and challenging if not done efficiently. However, cube jigs used with automatic compression machines play an important role in making this process faster and more convenient. Let's explore 5 ways in which cube jigs contribute to this transition:

1. Precision Fit: The UTEST cube jigs are designed with precision to accommodate cube-shaped specimens accurately. This means there's no need for time-consuming adjustments or trial-and-error setups, as the cube specimen simply slides into the jig.

2. Ease of Installation: Cube jigs are user-friendly and straightforward to install on UTEST automatic compression machines.

3. Consistent Alignment: Cube jigs used in automatic compression machines, maintain a consistent alignment with the loading axis. This alignment precision is essential for accurate testing.

4. Minimized Risk of Errors: Manual handling and adjustments are potential sources of errors in materials testing. Cube jigs mitigate this risk by providing a standardized and repeatable setup for cube specimens. This consistency not only saves time but also enhances the reliability of test results.

5. Adherence to Standards: The UTEST cube jigs are designed to meet industry standards and they ensure that cube specimens are tested in a manner consistent with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Cube jigs allow for a swift and efficient transition from testing cylinders to cubes, making the process more seamless and reducing downtime. With cube jigs and automated compression machines, materials testing professionals can switch between specimen types, saving time and ensuring the accuracy of their results.

Additionally, in the context of flexural testing, it's important to mention that materials testing laboratories may also need to perform flexural tests on concrete beams. For this purpose, a Flexural Test Device is used. This device is designed to perform center-point or two-point (third-point- ASTM) loading flexural tests on concrete beams of different sizes (e.g., 100x100x400-500 mm or 150x150x600-750 mm). It consists of two upper rollers and two lower rollers, each with a diameter of 25 mm and a length of 160 mm. The device is capable of applying a force of up to 150 kN and offers adjustable parameters, such as the distance between upper and lower rollers and the vertical daylight.

The Flexural Test Device conforms to industry standards such as EN 12390-5, ASTM C78, ASTM C293, and AASHTO T 9. It can be seamlessly integrated into materials testing setups with UTEST compression testing machines by replacing the lower platen. This ensures that materials testing laboratories have the flexibility to perform a wide range of tests, including both compressive and flexural tests, using the same equipment, thereby optimizing their testing processes.
